WhatsApp account banned? Why it happens, how to request a review, and how to warm up a new number

Updated 2026-10-30 · WhatsApp · Banned · Warm-up

For anyone doing sales or support on WhatsApp, a ban hurts, because your whole customer history is in there. Here is why it happens and what to do.

The usual causes

Modded apps. GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus and similar have extra features, but WhatsApp explicitly forbids them. Get detected and the ban is often immediate.

Bulk messages to strangers. A new number sending the same text to dozens of people who never saved it. A few "report" taps and it's gone.

Lots of reports or blocks. Even without bulk sending, content people find annoying gets reported.

Going full speed on a fresh number. Creating groups, adding people and posting links on day one.

What to do after a ban

Open WhatsApp. The ban screen usually has a "Request a review" or "Support" option. Submit it, say this is a number you use normally for personal or business purposes, explain what you use it for, and keep it short.

You'll be notified in the app. Temporary bans lift on their own. Permanent bans are rarely reversed.

Warming up a new number

  • For the first few days, only chat with people you know. Ideally they save your number and message you first
  • Fill in the name, photo and about section so it looks like a real person or company
  • No groups, no links in the first week
  • Increase message volume gradually, not from zero to hundreds in a day
  • Only use the official WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business apps

For business, use WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp Business gives you a company profile, auto-replies and a catalog, and customers trust it more. If you need to notify thousands of customers a day, use the official WhatsApp Business API instead of a pile of personal numbers.

Protect your customer list

The worst part of a ban is losing contacts. Two habits help:

  • Back up chats regularly to Google Drive or iCloud
  • Keep customer contacts somewhere other than WhatsApp

Running several numbers at once? Give each one its own fixed IP in the same country as the number. It prevents a lot of unexplained bans. Details: What a residential proxy is and why multi-account users need one.
