How to buy ChatGPT Plus cheaply: shared vs. private vs. upgrade
Official ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month, so the first reaction to a $2-3 Plus is "is this even real?" Most of them are real; they just come from different sources. Once you know the difference, choosing is easy.
Where the cheap ones come from
Three main types:
Shared accounts. One Plus account used by several people. Cheapest. The trade-offs: you can't change the password (doing so kicks everyone, including you), others may see the chat history, and it can lag or trip risk controls when many people are on. Fine for occasional use with nothing sensitive.
Private accounts. The whole account is yours, with the login and password. More expensive than shared, but it behaves just like your own subscription. For daily use or work content, go private.
Upgrades to your own account. Plus is applied to the account you already use, so your chat history and settings stay. The downside is you usually have to provide the account or help log in.
Why they're so cheap
Many are activated through low-price regions, gift cards or team/business seats, so the cost is below retail. That's also why warranties are short: the platform can change discounts or cancel abnormal subscriptions any time, so sellers only guarantee it works on delivery.
So: for long-term use pick full-warranty or private; cheap short-warranty accounts are better for trying a month.
Before you buy
- Check whether it's shared or private, and the warranty length.
- Log in right after receiving and confirm the subscription is active.
- Don't change the password or bindings on a shared account.
- API access is different: you'd be buying an API key and quota, not a Plus account.
